About this service
Are you an insurance company?
No. TruckRouteInsurance forwards requests to licensed agents and partners. It does not issue policies.
Is the request free?
Free. Hotshot carriers pay nothing to send a request.
Who will contact me?
A licensed agent or partner who writes hotshot rigs may reach you by phone, text or email, per your consent.
Can I start hotshot with no experience?
Some insurers will consider new operators, but options may be limited. Describe your background accurately.
Do I need cargo insurance?
It is not always required by federal rules for general freight, but most brokers and shippers require it.
Can I pull a trailer I do not own?
Ask about trailer interchange or non-owned trailer coverage.
Will a lapse in coverage affect my authority?
Yes. If your liability policy cancels, the insurer notifies FMCSA, and your authority can be revoked unless new coverage is filed. Keep payments current.
Do I need general liability?
Some shippers and facilities ask for it for work at their locations. It covers different risks than auto liability.
What about hauling cars?
Car hauling has its own cargo considerations. Tell the agent.
How do I stop messages?
Text STOP, tell the caller, or send the privacy page form.
Coverage questions
Is hotshot insurance different from regular truck insurance?
It uses the same kinds of coverage. The difference is in how insurers rate lighter trucks and the freight they carry.
Does my pickup's personal policy cover hotshot work?
Personal auto policies usually exclude for-hire hauling. Hotshot work needs a commercial policy.
Do I need authority if I only haul my own equipment?
Hauling your own property is private carriage. Operating authority applies to for-hire carriage, though safety rules may still apply.
Does cargo coverage include the trailer?
No. The trailer is covered under physical damage. Cargo covers the freight.
